When cutting parts with very fine details or intricate shapes, you need processes capable of producing very thin kerfs.
Overview
Generally, laser and waterjet excel at this type of cut; however, high definition plasma isn’t far behind. It’s also possible to achieve fine feature cuts with air plasma through the use of Hypertherm FineCut® consumables, which are available for both hand and machine-mounted air plasma torches. FineCut consumables produce a narrower kerf with a stiffer arc that is ideal for cutting thinner (3/16″ and lower) material at 40 amps and below.
Examples of applications requiring fine feature cutting:
- Cutting thinner material
- Cutting material with a lot of detail
- Cutting intricate shapes
- Cutting material in which very tight tolerances are required
